What's a good 240GB SSD?
« on: January 07, 2015, 10:32:49 PM »
Currently have a 120GB Corsair Force GT, and find it to be grand, but lately too small. Thus, and with GTA5 on the horizon, I'm going to get a 240GB SSD.

I'll be mainly using it for gaming (BF4, ARM3, and GTA5), although I'll also be using it with Photoshop and some light video editing.

Thinking of going Corsair again, although I will also consider Crucial and Samsung also. In terms of price, I don't want to spend more than ?200, and preferably around the ?150 mark, however is there any point looking at the 360GB SSD's?

Also, what is "wrong" with the Crucial SSD's? I note the 512GB CT512MX100SSD1 is only ?149, with the 256GB CT256MX100SSD1 ?78 - from looking at reviews, I can't seem to find out why they are so cheap, although I have seen the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB for ?89 and it's 500GB counterpart for ?170 or perhaps are Corsair just pricey?

FWIW, I'm happy with the SanDisk Extreme PRO 240 GB SATA III I got in December there.  Great results in AS SSD.

Syco,

I have the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB and it hasn't gave me any problems. I have heard bad things about the Crucial though. The migration software that came with them was giving people trouble, but other than that they seem to run fine for people I know who have it. To save any hassle you could put a clean OS onto the SSD itself during boot from a USB and then transfer the files over.

You pay for quality, so id recommend you just go for the Samsung.

Aye. Was talking to a few lads on the 1PARA TS, and it seems Crucials MX100 may not be the greatest. Shall see how funds are, but it seems likely I'll be buying GTA, wipe/reinstall W7 onto the current SSD and put GTA5 on it also, and get the SSD with funds from this month and next months pay. For the extra few bob, may go for the 850.
